A Warm Welcome to Babington Prep

At Babington House School, we are proud to be a school where joy, curiosity, and high achievement go hand in hand. It is a place full of smiles, strong friendships, and a genuine love of learning. Our committed and caring staff work tirelessly to support every child, ensuring they are challenged and nurtured to reach their full potential.

We take the time to get to know our pupils individually. We recognise that no two children are the same, and we celebrate these differences by providing an environment that supports personal growth, encourages ambition, and cultivates a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

The values of Kindness, Courtesy, Determination, Honesty, and Respect are at the heart of everything we do. These principles guide our expectations and behaviours across the school and help to foster a warm, inclusive community where all pupils feel safe, supported, and inspired to thrive.

Our school has a real sense of purpose and positivity, and every day is filled with opportunities for children to explore, discover, and grow. Whether through academic study, creative expression, sport, or wider co-curricular pursuits, our pupils are encouraged to become confident, compassionate, and capable young people ready to make a meaningful contribution to the world around them.

It is a great privilege to lead Babington House School. I am immensely proud to be part of such a vibrant and caring school community, and, like all the staff here, I am deeply committed to ensuring our pupils enjoy their time with us, achieve highly, and leave as well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world.

Warmest regards,

Mr David Laird

Co-curricular

At Babington House, we recognise and celebrate the unique talents of every individual. We believe that all pupils should be given the opportunity to explore and develop their abilities across a wide range of disciplines that reflect their personal interests and passions.

Student wellbeing lies at the heart of our ethos, and we are committed to promoting a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Engagement in co-curricular activities such as music, drama, sport, and outdoor pursuits—including our state-of-the-art climbing wall and horse riding—can provide pupils with a lifelong passion or simply serve as a source of enjoyment and camaraderie with peers.

The school offers an extensive range of clubs and societies, held during lunch breaks and after school, which also provide valuable opportunities for interaction across different year groups. These include academic and interest-based clubs such as French, Scrabble, Lego, Chess, Choir, and Art, as well as a variety of physical activities including Climbing, Ballet, Football, Street Dance, Taekwondo, Rugby, and Netball. At Babington House, there truly is something for everyone.

Trips

At our Prep School, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door — we believe that real-world experiences are a vital part of a child’s education and personal growth. That’s why we’re proud to offer a carefully planned programme of school trips that help bring learning to life, build confidence, and create unforgettable memories.

Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 enjoy exciting residential trips each year. Each trip is carefully chosen to complement classroom learning and encourage pupils to develop curiosity, resilience, and a sense of independence. Whether they’re climbing hills, discovering plants, or feeding goats, our pupils gain so much more than just knowledge — they grow in confidence, forge new friendships, and have a lot of fun along the way!

Additional Information

Wraparound Care

We know that modern family life can be busy, and we’re pleased to offer flexible wraparound care to support your schedule. Our Breakfast Club opens from 7:30am, offering a calm and friendly start to the day with a healthy breakfast provided. After school, children can attend our After School Club, which runs until 6:00pm and offers a mix of play, snacks, and quiet time.

These services are bookable in advance, and children are cared for by familiar, friendly staff who ensure they feel comfortable and secure during their extended day.

Healthy Eating

We place great importance on healthy eating and nutrition. We encourage pupils to try new foods and develop good habits that will last a lifetime. Please ensure that any allergies or dietary requirements are noted in your child’s medical form. As part of our health and safety policy, Babington House is a nut-free school.

Pastoral Care

The happiness and wellbeing of every child is at the heart of what we do. Our pastoral care system is designed to ensure that children feel safe, understood, and supported from their very first day. Class teachers play a central role in daily care and communication, and we foster a culture of kindness, respect, and emotional resilience. Activities like circle time and PSHE lessons help children explore feelings, build friendships, and develop a strong sense of self.

Safeguarding

Keeping our children safe is our top priority. We have robust safeguarding policies in place, and our staff receive regular training to ensure they are well-equipped to identify and respond to any concerns. The school’s Designated Safeguarding Leads are named in our policies and are always available for advice or support. We encourage open communication and a proactive approach to child protection.

Parent Portal

Once joined, families can access key school dates on the calendar and fixtures via our Parent Portal. Details on how to access and log in will be provided.

BHSFA

The BHSFA – Babington House School Friends’ Association – is a dedicated team of parent volunteers who organise fundraising events throughout the school year. Their goal is to support the school community by raising funds that directly benefit the children and enhance their experience at Babington.

A key part of the BHSFA’s fundraising efforts comes from the sale of pre-loved school uniform. Generously donated by current families, this uniform stock is sold at affordable prices. Sales take place regularly during the year – for dates and details, please check the weekly Babington Bulletin, contact your Form Rep, or email us directly.

Our Community

We are proud of our co-educational setting which continually creates a harmonious and balanced community for all. We are a school where everyone is known as an individual and our friendly, welcoming environment makes Babington a happy and vibrant place to be.

Houses

From the moment you start, you will be enrolled into one of our four Houses named after famous women in history; Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie, Edith Cavel and Elizabeth Fry. These Houses are a huge part of Babington’s history, inherited from our founder Madame Rosselin 1887. Our House system is a vital part of Babington and encourages our pupils to collaborate, make friends and learn from each other across the school as they come together to participate in a range of activities throughout the school year.

Babington House School Friends Association (BHSFA)

Every parent at Babington House school automatically becomes a member of the Friends Association and are welcome to be a silent observer or an enthusiastic contributor and help with planning and running the many wonderful events throughout the year, such as the Summer Ball or Christmas Bazaar, all of which raise funds for various projects to benefit all pupils.

For information about any BHSFA events, the school shop or any other general enquiries, please email babingtonpta@outlook.com

The Rossell Scholar Programme

The Rossel Scholar Programme has been established to further enrich the educational opportunities available to our pupils and to support the development of those identified as potential candidates for scholarship entry to our distinguished Senior School.

This initiative has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the longstanding traditions of our school, while simultaneously enhancing our already exceptional academic provision. It seeks to nurture future Senior School Scholars from an early age, setting them on a clear and purposeful academic path—one inspired by the original vision of Madame Rossel.

About the Scholar Programme

The Rossel Scholar Programme aims to develop the comprehensive academic abilities of selected pupils. Our objective is to cultivate well-rounded scholars who not only demonstrate high academic achievement but also embody the core values of Babington House: Kindness, Courtesy, Determination, Honesty, and Respect.

Participants in the programme may engage in a variety of enriching activities, which may include:

  • Specialised sessions led by expert teachers from both the Preparatory and Senior Schools
  • Individualised mentoring with a dedicated member of staff
  • Opportunities to represent the school in academic competitions
  • Additional independent learning assignments
  • Focused preparation for Senior School scholarship selection processes

Selection Process

All pupils in Year 2 currently attending Babington House, as well as those who have confirmed their intention to join the school at the start of Year 3, will be automatically considered for inclusion in the programme.

Selection will be based on a holistic review of each pupil’s academic performance and their demonstration of the school’s core values and positive contribution to the school community. Priority will be given to pupils who consistently perform above age-related expectations.

Although there is no predetermined number of places available, it is anticipated that approximately four to five pupils will be selected annually.

Identifications for the 2025 intake will take place during the Summer Term of Year 2, with formal invitations extended in July 2025. The programme will be reviewed on an annual basis, and adjustments may be made accordingly, including the potential addition of new pupils each academic year. Selected pupils will be guided and encouraged to pursue scholarship opportunities at the Senior School, where appropriate.
